Clinical Nurse

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors impacting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed to revise the care plan.
  • Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as required by the care plan.
  • Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiates with the supervisor as needed.
  • Participates in development efforts and achievement of unit goals.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems.
  • Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to co-workers.
  • Monitors public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
  • Contributes to a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Synthesizes assessment data prior to communicating to others.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for both the patient and themselves.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the care plan.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Employs effective communication methods in planning discussions.
  • Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues.
• Research:
  • Stays informed on relevant studies and articles through professional journals.
  • Presents ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Skills

Required Skills & Experience:

• One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

Required Education:

• Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.

Preferred Education:

• BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
