As a Team Captain – Sport & Outdoor, you will coach teammates, drive sales performance, and ensure athletes find the right gear for their sport. You’ll inspire your team to deliver an exceptional athlete experience in Sport & Outdoor through expert product knowledge and strong selling leadership. Responsibilities Deliver outstanding athlete experiences by anticipating athlete needs and providing clear, accurate, and knowledgeable information about products and assortment. Uphold company merchandising and presentation standards by following established floor sets, signage requirements, price changes, inventory presentation, replenishment standards, etc. Promote and lead company programs (customer loyalty program participation, warranty sales, private label credit card enrollment, etc.). Collaborate with the SM and ASM to develop 30‑60‑90 day plans that support business priorities for assigned department(s). Help establish and execute operational plans related to staffing, hiring, merchandising sets, and financial goals. Act as Head Coach when the sole leader, performing general store oversight including opening and closing procedures, front end and cash office functions, teammate supervision, etc. Communicate departmental goals and plans to direct reports and assign workload based on skill levels to maximize efficiencies. Monitor progress against plans, adjust as needed, and pivot to ensure uninterrupted operations and athlete support while meeting payroll and financial goals. Develop effective schedules for direct reports and adjust to meet athlete traffic demands and operational initiatives. Build and lead a strong, effective team that delivers positive athlete experiences. Take the lead on sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retaining appropriate number of direct reports. Ensure all teammates are properly trained and provide coaching, feedback, development, recognition, and motivation throughout the teammate lifecycle. Perform performance management, including annual reviews, promotional recommendations, and holding teammates accountable for policies and procedures. Create a store environment where everyone is always welcome and treated with respect. Adhere to and enforce established policies and procedures related to safety, loss prevention, and standard operating procedures, and laws/guidelines of external governing entities. Hold teammates who fail to meet or comply with expectations accountable. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent. 1‑3 years of experience in a retail/customer‑facing role. Previous people‑leadership experience preferred. Virtual Requirements Cameras must be on during all virtual interviews. AI tools are not permitted to be used by the candidate during any part of the interview process. The offer is contingent upon a satisfactory background check which may include ID verification. Pay & Benefits Targeted Pay Range: $52,500.00 – $66,500.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that may include incentive, equity, and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all teammate pay regularly to ensure competitive and equitable pay.
