Role Description The Weekend Meteorologist is a full-time, on-site role based in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area. This role is responsible for preparing, producing, and presenting accurate, engaging weather forecasts for weekend newscasts and other scheduled programming. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing meteorological data, using weather models and radar, creating graphics, and delivering live reports on severe weather and impactful conditions across the DMV region. The Weekend Meteorologist collaborates with the newsroom team to integrate weather coverage into broader storytelling, contributes to digital and social media platforms, and provides real-time updates during breaking weather events. The role also involves community engagement through station initiatives, public appearances, and clear communication that helps viewers understand and prepare for changing weather. Qualifications Strong foundation in Meteorology, including weather analysis, forecasting, and communication of complex information in accessible terms. Experience monitoring and reporting Severe Weather events, with the ability to deliver timely, calm, and clear coverage during high-impact situations. Knowledge of Climatology and related long-term weather patterns to support broader environmental and regional stories. Background in Physics and related atmospheric sciences that supports rigorous data interpretation and use of forecasting models. Familiarity with Oceanography and its impact on regional weather systems is beneficial. Proficiency with broadcast weather graphics systems, radar platforms, and newsroom workflow tools. Excellent on-air presentation skills, including strong verbal communication, confident camera presence, and clear visual storytelling. Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience. Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required, and to respond quickly to breaking weather situations.
