What Can You Expect 

• Instruct the crew on auger boring, jack-and-bore, and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations for installing water pipe, sewer/storm pipe, and casing under roadways, railways, and other obstructions, as well as open-cut installation of pipe, manholes, and grading.
• Pre-plan bore paths, entry and exit pit locations, and crew activities; provide training on boring machine operation and trenchless installation methods.
• Oversee projects to ensure boring line, grade, and casing tolerances, as well as overall scope and quality, comply with the contract documents.
• Enforce site cleanliness, safety, health, and substance abuse programs, including confined-space and shoring requirements around bore pits.

What You Bring to the Table

• Understands means and methods of construction associated with auger boring, jack-and-bore, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and pipe jacking, as well as earthwork, site utility, and concrete construction.
• Understands the sequencing of boring operations (pit excavation, casing installation, carrier pipe insertion, and grouting) and the strategy of creating effective project schedules.
• Must possess hands-on experience operating or directly supervising boring machines, auger systems, and jacking equipment, and the ability to use that knowledge to challenge the appropriateness of work in progress.
• Must possess the ability to read and interpret bore profiles and plans, shoot elevations, set up lasers and guidance systems, and understand codes and regulations for railroad, highway, and utility crossing permits.
