AVP/VP Underwriter - P&C Excess & Umbrella

Location: Atlanta, GA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site four days a week (core days Tuesday–Thursday, fourth day based on business needs) Overview A subsidiary of a large financial services group, operating across more than 30 specialty and property and casualty lines, is seeking a Divisional Assistant Vice President (AVP) or Vice President (VP) of Underwriting. This role oversees technical underwriting, pricing, and coverage decisions for P&C insurance and reinsurance from the home office, playing a critical part in maintaining underwriting quality, compliance, and strategic direction across the organization. What you'll do Serve as a resource for field offices on technical underwriting issues Manage and process referrals from field underwriters, providing clear approval or denial with detailed reasoning and documentation Provide advice and guidance to the field to support achievement of business objectives Partner closely with the Divisional President and Vice President to execute strategic underwriting objectives Ensure compliance with SOX regulations and conduct regular audits Maintain detailed knowledge of underwriting guidelines and product offerings, providing guidance to the team Act as a key point of contact for regulatory and policy compliance, ensuring activities meet legal and internal standards Travel occasionally (less than 10%) to perform audits and meet with clients as needed Required qualifications Bachelor's degree with a background in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field Generally 10+ years of liability underwriting experience, with exposure to reinsurance and referral processes Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and develop sound underwriting strategies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders Majority of experience on the retail side versus broker/wholesale side Why this role This position offers the chance to bring technical underwriting expertise to a well-established organization with a broad specialty and P&C portfolio, combining a collaborative, relationship-driven culture with the scale and resources of a large financial services group. #J-18808-Ljbffr
