Posted Job Title ULAR Technician, Animal Laboratory/Technician, Veterinary Senior Job Profile Title Technician, Veterinary Senior Job Description Summary Perform all the duties of a veterinary technician assistant. In addition, independently manage tasks related to the provision of veterinary clinical care/treatments to mice/rats including triage, record review, injectable, oral, topical medication administration and euthanasia. Communicate with clinical veterinary staff and lab personnel regarding the health of colony animals. Maintain animal health records, perform drug calculations. Requires regular weekend duty (with flexible weekdays off); occasional after-hours duty may be needed. Operate sterilization equipment and prepare surgical equipment packs. Consult with veterinary clinical staff and investigator staff on clinical treatment options. Prepare bills for treatments/medications used to provide veterinary clinical care. Familiarity with IACUC protocols to help ensure investigator compliance. Work with other veterinary technicians and veterinarians in the provision of care to research animals in ULAR-managed vivarium including performing colony maintenance procedures for USDA species, animal handling/restraint, and associated record keeping. Maintain drug/supply/equipment inventory. Includes equipment cleaning/sterilization, operating room cleaning/maintenance, filling investigator requests for drugs/supplies. Operate sterilization equipment and prepare surgical equipment packs. Prepare bills for treatments/medications used to provide veterinary clinical care. Qualifications Vet Tech 0-1 years of related experience, or 3-5 years in ULAR husbandry. Experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting is preferred. AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level preferred, or a demonstrated commitment to attaining that certification within the time frame established by AALAS. Ability to respond to changing circumstances by being innovative and altering behavior to better fit different situations. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds, with fair amount of walking. Computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word programs. Vet Tech Sr Associate of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
