School Aide in CDL Training

Overview Rolling V Bus Corp offers a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) Training Program that provides an opportunity to "Earn and Learn" by working as a School Bus Aide while training to become a licensed school bus driver. The program provides a pathway to a higher earning potential and flexibility once licensed to drive a school bus, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of children. Program Structure Classes are scheduled every 8 weeks. Training Components Classroom instruction to obtain a CDL Permit. Vehicle/behind‑the‑wheel training to prepare for the road test. Starting Hourly Rate while working as a bus aide and attending training: $17.00/hour. Training Schedule – about 2 hours midday to avoid conflicts with work. Post‑License Pay Van: $17.00/hour (guaranteed 4.5 hours daily). Bus: $20.00/hour (guaranteed 4.5 hours daily). Additional hours available through late runs, midday, or charter trip assignments. Job Responsibilities Main Objective – Transport children safely following a fixed daily schedule. Communication Skills – Engage cooperatively with parents/guardians, school officials, and coworkers. Writing Skills – Required for completing regulatory reports. Job Descriptions – Refer to the School Bus Aide and School Bus Driver job descriptions for further details. Job Requirements Application Process Complete job application and new‑hire packet with required NYS and federal documents. Background check as required for working with children and people with developmental disabilities. Identification – Submit satisfactory forms of identification. References – Authorize contact with three provided references. Residential History – Provide a history of residential addresses. Background Checks – Authorize thorough background investigation per federal, state, school, and company policies. Pre‑Employment Testing – Physical and drug/alcohol screening administered at company expense. Physical Performance Test Climb and descend bus steps. Exit from a seated position quickly. Use rear emergency door for evacuation. Carry or drag a 125 lb. weight to simulate evacuation. Training Initial paid six‑hour pre‑service training. Ongoing training may be required for general or specific job duties.
