Job Description Job Description Description: Position Summary The Specialty Registered Dental Assistant (S-RDA) supports specialized clinical providers and procedures across advanced service areas, requiring deep technical training, a high level of clinical competency, and the composure to perform effectively in complex and time-sensitive patient care situations. This role serves specialty providers and patients with advanced clinical needs by delivering precise, safety-conscious, and efficient assistance throughout all stages of specialty care. The core purpose is to ensure procedural excellence, protect patient safety, and support the consistent delivery of high-quality specialty dentistry. Core Responsibilities Specialty: All DA, RDA, and EFDA functions, plus specialty-specific clinical support, sedation assistance, and advanced patient management. Specialty Procedure Support Assist with specialty procedures across designated service areas including oral surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, or periodontics as assigned. Support conscious sedation and nitrous oxide procedures in compliance with state regulations, practice protocols, and patient monitoring requirements. Manage surgical setup and breakdown, including specialty instrument organization, sterile field maintenance, and post-procedure sterilization. Perform bracket and wire adjustments, bonding procedures, and other orthodontic chairside functions where state-permitted. Anticipate and respond to clinical needs during high-acuity procedures, including emergency preparedness and adherence to protocols. Advanced Patient Management Deliver advanced patient preparation, chairside management, and post-procedural monitoring, with particular attention to complex, pediatric, anxious, or medically compromised patients. Communicate clearly with patients and caregivers before and after specialty procedures to support a safe, comfortable, and informed experience. Maintain specialty-specific instrumentation, materials, and equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards. Compliance & Documentation Document specialty procedures accurately and ensure compliance with specialty-specific recordkeeping and consent requirements. Supervisory Responsibility This role has no formal supervisory responsibility. The Specialty Registered Dental Assistant may provide guidance to less experienced clinical team members within the specialty setting as directed by the supervising provider. This role supports specialty procedures such as Orthodontic, Oral Surgery, Pediatric, Periodontal, or Endodontic as assigned, and requires applicable specialty certifications or demonstrated experience in the relevant discipline. Employees in this role are expected to perform specialty-specific functions within their state-authorized scope, maintain all required certifications in good standing, and complete specialty-focused continuing education as directed by the practice and required for state licensure. Requirements: Education & Qualifications Required Experience Minimum 3 years of dental assisting experience with direct hands-on exposure to specialty or advanced clinical procedures. Required Education High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an advanced dental assisting or specialty-focused program preferred. Required Licensure & Certifications All credentials required at the DA III level, including EFDA certification or state-recognized equivalent. State-required certifications for applicable specialty functions (e.g., sedation assisting, surgical assisting, orthodontic assisting). Preferred: Direct clinical experience in an oral surgery, orthodontic, pediatric, endodontic, or periodontal setting. Conscious sedation or nitrous oxide monitoring certification. Advanced training in emergency preparedness, airway management, or patient safety protocols.
