Phlebotomy Technician

POSITION PURPOSE Performs venipunctures, gives patients instructions to properly collect non-blood specimens and performs non-technical and clerical functions related to specimen collection. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Collection of blood specimens from various patient types using defined venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. Status recording of the collection date and time in the Laboratory Information System. Instruction of patients in the collection of non-blood specimens. Performs point of care testing at the patient bedside. Clear communication with patients, physicians and fellow employees.
