Registered Nurse II – Emergency Department (ED)

Job Location: Salinas, CA Job Duration: 3 months contract (possibility of extension) Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 12x3, 36 hours/week Travel Pay Rate: $ 2756/week including $1517/ week stipend Local Pay Rate: $2600/week on W2

The Registered Nurse II – Emergency Department provides comprehensive nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and the California Nurse Practice Act. The RN collaborates with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team while providing age-appropriate care in a fast-paced emergency setting. The nurse may float within the cluster or similar departments based on staffing and patient needs and may serve as a preceptor or charge nurse as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patients and accurately document findings in the medical record.
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on patient needs, age, and developmental status.
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
• Provide, delegate, and coordinate nursing interventions according to established policies and procedures.
• Initiate, manage, and participate in discharge planning.
• Provide patient and family education and support throughout the care process.
• Monitor and evaluate patient responses to treatment and update the plan of care as needed.
• Facilitate physiological, psychosocial, and spiritual care of patients.
• Utilize effective communication and conflict-resolution skills to promote teamwork.
• Maintain professional standards through in-services, committees, performance improvement activities, and departmental initiatives.
• Monitor the appropriate use of time, equipment, and supplies to support cost-effective care.
• Serve as a preceptor and charge nurse as assigned and demonstrate flexibility with floating or changing unit needs.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of clinical Registered Nurse experience in specialty areas required.
• Recent Epic experience required: 6–12 months within the past year.
• Current California RN license required.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required.
• BLS required; must meet American Heart Association standards.
• ACLS and PALS required.
• Must successfully complete the SVMH Pharmacology test.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care.
• Must be willing to float within the cluster/similar department as needed.
• Must be willing to work Thanksgiving; no RTO during Thanksgiving, and all requests will be reviewed.
• Must demonstrate flexibility with hospital or unit staffing needs.

Preferred Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner certification preferred.
• Open to floating within cluster/similar departments is highly desirable.
