Make a positive impact supporting young learners as a classroom para at an intermediate school near Cambridge, MA. In this contract role, you will work closely with 4th and 5th grade students in a classroom designed for those with autism, offering both individual and group support in a collaborative special education environment. The assignment runs through June 2027, providing long-term stability and meaningful professional growth in a supportive school community.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience working within special education (SPED) classrooms
- Confidence and skill supporting students within the 4th and 5th-grade age group, especially those with autism spectrum disorder
- Current or recent Safety Care certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to partner with classroom teachers and other support staff
- Strong observational abilities and patience to respond to students’ individual needs
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance to students with autism, both academically and socially, under the guidance of certified teachers
- Support individualized education plans (IEPs) and classroom adaptations as needed
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment to help students engage with curriculum and daily routines
- Assist with behavior management using Safety Care techniques and school protocols
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing training to enhance skills and stay current with best practices
Enjoy a set schedule of 30 hours per week in a contract position that runs through mid-June 2027. Day-to-day, you’ll be creating daily connections with students, celebrating their progress, and empowering them to succeed in meaningful ways.
