Job Description

As a Construction Safety Officer at Frontline General Engineering Construction, Inc , you will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment across construction projects. You will oversee daily safety operations, conduct jobsite inspections, enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements, provide safety training, and work closely with project management, superintendents, foremen, and field employees to identify and correct potential hazards.

The Safety Officer will support public works and private construction projects from start to completion and help ensure that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections of construction jobsites and identify unsafe conditions and practices.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements .
• Monitor excavation, trenching, traffic control, equipment operation, fall protection, confined space, hot work, and other construction activities for safety compliance.
• Review and enforce project-specific safety plans, including Trenching Plans, Silica Exposure Control Plans, Emergency Action Plans, and Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) .
• Conduct and document daily, weekly, and periodic jobsite safety inspections.
• Conduct safety orientations and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
• Maintain records of safety training, inspections, corrective actions, incidents, and other required safety documentation.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents and assist with determining corrective actions.
• Ensure corrective actions are communicated and completed in a timely manner.
• Work with Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, and employees to identify and eliminate workplace hazards.
• Assist with developing and updating company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
• Monitor employee and subcontractor compliance with required PPE and safe work practices.
• Verify that required safety signage, barricades, warning devices, and personal protective equipment are properly used and maintained.
• Assist with maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazardous material documentation.
• Support compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements applicable to construction operations.
• Coordinate with management and field personnel regarding safety concerns, corrective actions, and required training.
• Assist with inspections and communications involving OSHA/Cal-OSHA, project owners, inspectors, and other regulatory agencies.
• Maintain accurate and organized safety files and documentation.
• Provide recommendations to management for improving workplace safety and reducing incidents.
• Stop or recommend stopping unsafe work when an immediate hazard presents a risk to employees or the public.
• Travel between multiple construction projects as needed.

The Following Candidate Needs to Have

• Well organized and able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Experience in general engineering construction or heavy civil construction .
• Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements.
• Experience conducting construction site safety inspections.
• Ability to identify hazards and recommend practical corrective actions.
• Experience conducting toolbox talks, safety orientations, and employee training.
• Proficient in reading and understanding construction plans and specifications .
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate safety documentation and reports.
• Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with project management and field personnel.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow up on corrective actions.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's degree or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of construction safety or equivalent construction experience.

• Proven experience as a Safety Officer, Safety Coordinator, Safety Manager, Superintendent, Foreman, or similar position in the construction industry.
• Experience with public works and/or private construction projects preferred.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
• Knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and California construction safety requirements preferred.
• Experience with excavation, trenching, heavy equipment, underground utilities, concrete, grading, and general engineering construction preferred.

• Dependability – Ability to consistently follow through on inspections, documentation, training, corrective actions, and other safety responsibilities.
• Professionalism – Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude while enforcing safety requirements and addressing safety concerns.

Physical Requirements

• The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds . Employees may be required to drive between construction project locations.
• The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, including above the shoulders; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk; and hear.
• The position requires the ability to work in outdoor construction environments and may involve exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and other typical construction-site conditions.
• Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception vision are required.
