Job summary:The Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and inspection on County buildings, grounds equipment, utilities, and related systems. The position will use a variety of hand, power and other needed tools and equipment, along with accepted and best practices to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for County services, patrons, and employees. This position also completes administrative tasks that are essential to the functioning of the Maintenance Department as assigned or as necessary. The principal duties of this position are performed in a public building environment, at detention facilities, at elevated heights or outdoors in various weather conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The position assumes responsibility and performs tasks in the following areas: Outdoor Maintenance:Conducts daily walking inspections of grounds, parking lots, and common areas for assigned facilities,Maintains grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, and planted areas, by picking up litter and trash, mowing grass, weeding, and irrigating assigned grounds.Maintains and repairs outdoor sprinkler and irrigation systems,Performs snow removal duties, including sanding and salting of walkways, andPerforms the painting of outdoor structures, along with graffiti removal duties. Indoor Maintenance:Assists with responding to and completing maintenance and repair requests, Assists with scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work on electrical, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing systems,Assists with construction work and painting on County buildings, including remodel projects, Performs maintenance and janitorial work in restrooms and assists in cleaning spills as needed. Other Duties and Responsibilities:Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety policies,Creates, maintains and files required work order and other maintenance records,Performs inventory control duties, and orders cleaning and other needed supplies from vendors through established purchasing practices and venues,Assists with completing and documenting periodic (weekly, monthly, annual) preventative maintenance schedules,Assists with employee safety programs and initiatives,Assists with monitoring work projects performed by inmate and community service crews,May be assigned basic bookkeeping duties and monitoring of receivables and expenses,May be called outside of typical work hours to respond to emergency facility situations, and Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or necessary to accomplish County and department objectives. Competency Requirements:This position obtains, possesses, and deploys the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform their responsibilities: Knowledge Of: County, department and professional policies, procedures, codes, and practices regarding effective and safe maintenance duties and the use of power tools, ladders and power lifts, and cleaning and other chemicals,Baisc accounting principles and procedures, basic mathematical computations, and understanding of purchase orders and invoices, andA basic to intermediate level understanding of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook. Skills To:Communicate effectively and professionally, verbally or in writing, while providing exceptional customer service to patrons, co-workers, and all others who visit, call, or write to the department,Operate hand tools, painting equipment, power tools, motor vehicles, snow removal and lawn care equipment and other tools and equipment needed to complete assignments, Operate standard office equipment, internet-based programs, and a personal computer using program applications required to complete assigned duties, andBe organized and effectively create, file, and maintain required maintenance work orders, scheduled maintenance documents, reports, financial records and other required records. Ability To:Provide exceptional customer service, in person and by telephone, to be able to respond to general inquiries, explain regulatory compliance and resolve problems, complaints or concerns, Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, supervisory personnel, state and local elected and appointed officials, and other County employees under occasionally stressful conditions,Perform multiple tasks and responsibilities, including handling interruptions, with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines and priorities, andFollow written and oral instructions to accomplish tasks while working independently or as part of a project team, and learn and be trained-on-the job as needed in standard maintenance and janitorial practices, Minimum Experience, Education and TrainingOne (1) year of related work experience,High school diploma or GED equivalency is required, Current and unrestricted Idaho driver's license is required, and Idaho Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter. Essential Physical AbilitiesSufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, alarm, and warning systems, including backup alarms, and communicate in person and by telephone,Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to flexibility, agility, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations which require working in confined spaces, climbing on ladders and power lifts, and working in a building or outdoor
