Travel RN - Neuro ICU

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN with at least 2 years of critical care experience and prior travel assignment experience for a 26-bed comprehensive stroke center unit.

Work in a 26-bed Neuroscience and Surgical ICU (NSICU) within a comprehensive stroke center

Cares for various neurological patient diagnoses including stroke, seizure, and traumatic brain injury cases

Staffing ratios of 2:1, occasionally 3:1

12-hour night shift schedule (18:45-07:15), 3x12 hours per week

Every other weekend requirement

Floating required to other ICUs and intermediate units

Uses EVD management, ventilator management, Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun, and PCAs

Charting and systems include Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication

Scheduling is per unit needs with no block scheduling

Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending acceptable at submission

Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required

Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required

Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry required

Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, and starting/maintaining IVs

Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, and ABG interpretation required

Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required

Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post neurosurgery management, and traumatic brain injury care required

Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and IV insulin protocols required

Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required

Epic charting experience preferred

Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending acceptable at submission)

Provide critical care nursing to a complex neuroscience and surgical ICU patient population

Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty

Weekly orientation totaling 24 hours

Scrubs not provided; navy blue, white, or a combination of both required

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler, with facility rehire approval required

Current travel per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between per diem or travel status

Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and no RTO is allowed during the first week

Must work 2 of 3 major holidays

Travel pairs are allowed if on different units with separate transportation

Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
