Quality Lab Specialist
$85kJunior Laboratory Technician (Quality Control) We are seeking a motivated Quality Control Specialist to join our Quality Control team. You will support the QC Laboratory in preparing, testing, and controlling ceramic products (mainly engobes and glazes) to ensure compliance with quality standards throughout the production process. education: Bachelors Responsibilities Key Responsibilities • Glaze Preparation & Handling o Prepare laboratory-scale glaze batches following standard formulations o Weight and mix raw materials such as frits, clays, oxides, pigments, and additives o Perform grinding and milling (eg, ball mill preparation) and ensure correct particle size distribution o Maintain proper labelling, traceability, and storage of glaze samples • Testing & Quality Control: perform routine tests, including: o Density (specific gravity) o Viscosity (eg, Ford cup or rotational viscometer) o Residue/sieve analysis o pH meter analysis o Suspension stability o Apply products on test tiles using standard techniques o Monitor drying and surface behavior of glazes before firing o Evaluate fired samples for: Surface defects (pinholes, crazing, blistering) Color consistency and glossiness Record and report results accurately in lab systems or logs • Process Support o Support production teams by sampling and checking incoming raw materials inside standard ceramic product formulations The essential functions of this role include:

- Glaze Preparation: Prepare lab-scale glaze batches following standard formulations. Weigh/mix raw materials (frits, clays, oxides, pigments, additives). Perform grinding/milling (ball mill) and ensure correct particle size distribution. Maintain sample labeling, storage, and traceability.
- Testing & Quality Control: Perform routine tests including density (specific gravity), viscosity (Ford cup/rotational viscometer), residue/sieve analysis, pH levels, and suspension stability.
- Evaluation: Apply products on test tiles and monitor drying behavior. Evaluate fired samples for color consistency, glossiness, and surface defects (pinholes, crazing, blistering). Accurately log results in lab systems.
- Process Support: Sample and check incoming raw materials. Help troubleshoot glaze/engobe defects and non-conformities. Support trials for new formulations or material changes.
- Lab Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment (balances, mills, viscometers). Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety procedures, and housekeeping standards.
- Education: High School Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience: 0–2 years in a laboratory or ceramic production environment. Entry-level candidates eager to learn are welcome!
- Familiarity with product parameters (density, viscosity, particle size).
- High attention to detail in weighing, mixing, and test execution.
- Good manual dexterity for sample preparation and tile application.
- Basic data recording skills (Excel/lab software).
- strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with production and R&D.
- A proactive learning attitude and problem-solving mindset.
- Asset: Basic understanding of glaze composition or visual defect identification.
