The patient ratio is 1:4 during the day/weekends and 1:5 at night. Patient diagnoses include respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis. Candidates must be able to work 36 or 48 hours per week. Every other weekend is required, and candidates must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed. The nurse must adhere to float policies. Previous charge experience is preferred. Candidates should have experience with the Epic charting system. Skills required include management of dysrhythmias, telemetry, renal failure, PCA, tracheostomy care, wound care, and heparin protocols. The unit has interdisciplinary support from various services, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and rapid response teams. The unit provides care for adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The facility has a total of 26 beds. Nurse-driven protocols are in place for insulin drips and heparin infusions. This position requires strong clinical judgment and the ability to work as part of a team.
