Software Subject Matter Expert

Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Software Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems. This role is responsible for performing real-world tasks within a designated software platform, documenting workflows in detail, creating representative use cases, and evaluating AI-generated actions for accuracy, efficiency, and usability.The ideal candidate is an advanced user of a business-critical software application and possesses the ability to translate complex workflows into clear, repeatable processes. This individual will collaborate with AI training, product, quality assurance, and engineering teams to improve the performance of intelligent software agents through structured feedback and workflow analysis.Key ResponsibilitiesSoftware Workflow DocumentationExecute real-world, end-to-end workflows within the target software platform.Accurately document all steps required to complete tasks, including navigation paths, user inputs, system responses, outputs, and expected results.Develop detailed process documentation that can be replicated by technical and non-technical users.Identify variations, exceptions, and alternative workflow paths within the software environment.AI Evaluation & Quality AssuranceReview AI-generated actions, recommendations, and workflow executions.Assess outputs for accuracy, completeness, efficiency, and adherence to established business practices.Validate whether AI-generated task sequences successfully achieve desired outcomes.Identify workflow errors, inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and process gaps.Provide structured feedback and annotations to improve AI performance and reliability.Scenario DevelopmentCreate realistic task scenarios that reflect how professionals use the software in day-to-day operations.Develop beginner, intermediate, and advanced use cases for testing and evaluation purposes.Generate representative business processes and operational workflows for model training activities.Ensure scenarios accurately reflect industry standards and real-world software usage.Process Analysis & ImprovementIdentify edge cases, failure points, and workflow ambiguities.Analyze user journeys and software behaviors to uncover opportunities for optimization.Research and document software limitations, exceptions, and uncommon use cases.Contribute recommendations to improve testing methodologies and evaluation standards.Collaboration & Knowledge SharingWork closely with AI trainers, product teams, engineers, and quality analysts.Participate in calibration sessions to ensure evaluation consistency.Communicate findings clearly through written reports, annotations, and feedback documentation.Maintain high-quality documentation standards and knowledge repositories.Required QualificationsProfessional hands-on experience using a specific software platform or suite of applications.Demonstrated ability to perform complex tasks independently within the target software.Strong understanding of business processes and workflows associated with the software's domain.Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow structured procedures.Experience creating documentation, SOPs, training materials, or process guides.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent written communication skills.Proficiency using Windows and/or Linux operating systems.Ability to identify process flaws, inconsistencies, and usability issues.Preferred QualificationsExperience in software testing, QA, UAT, or validation activities.Previous experience with AI training, data annotation, model evaluation, or workflow assessment.Familiarity with multiple software platforms within the same domain.Experience creating user guides, knowledge base articles, or technical documentation.Background in process improvement, business analysis, or operational excellence.Experience supporting enterprise software environments.Desired BackgroundsCandidates may come from industries such as:Finance and Wealth ManagementEngineering and DesignHealthcare TechnologyScientific ResearchManufacturingData AnalyticsSupply Chain and OperationsEnterprise Software AdministrationBusiness Systems SupportExamples of relevant software expertise include:SalesforceServiceNowSAPOracleWorkdayEpicCernerMicrosoft DynamicsAutoCADRevitTableauAlteryxBloomberg TerminalQuickBooksIndustry-specific enterprise applicationsCore CompetenciesSubject Matter ExpertiseProcess DocumentationCritical ThinkingAttention to DetailQuality AssuranceWorkflow AnalysisTechnical WritingProblem SolvingCommunication SkillsTime ManagementAdaptabilityIndependent ExecutionSuccess MetricsAccuracy and completeness of documented workflowsQuality of AI evaluation feedbackIdentification of edge cases and process gapsConsistency of annotations and assessmentsProductivity and throughput of assigned reviewsAdherence to quality standards and documentation requirementsJob Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Menlo Park, CA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
