This position is located in West Palm Beach, FL. Position overview and responsibilities include processing permit applications and conducting compliance inspections for the Department's Compliance Assurance Program/Permitting Program. The incumbent will cross train in multiple program areas (air, waste, and water). Permitting and waste cleanup involves reviewing and processing complex permit applications and technical documents, ensuring all Department rules are met, and updating permitting data/records in data management systems. External compliance assistance includes conducting site visits and providing education and guidance to various sectors. Internal training involves strategizing, assessing, and determining training needs of Department staff and providing technical assistance. Compliance includes conducting inspections, site visits, sampling/testing, and producing accurate documentation of inspections.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding terminology and principles of physical or natural sciences, collecting and interpreting scientific or technical data, understanding and applying environmental rules and regulations, effective communication, planning and coordination, teamwork, report preparation, legislative policy direction, public interaction, and field inspection skills.

Minimum qualifications include a valid driver license, ability to travel, obtaining Department certification as a Certified Wetland Evaluator (CWE) within 9 months of hire, ability to use safety equipment and complete a 24-hour HAZWOPER course, and at least 4 years of verifiable related experience in regulatory inspection/compliance/permitting or other related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required 4 years of experience.
