The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) seeks qualified applicants for a Lab Coordinator position at the North Campus Labs (NCL). The Lab Coordinator is responsible for developing learning modules that support the laboratory's current additive and subtractive manufacturing capabilities while identifying opportunities to expand existing manufacturing processes. This role also supports the NCL Design Project mission and performs other related duties as assigned.

The position requires a strong working knowledge of additive and subtractive manufacturing processes, along with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair manufacturing equipment. The Lab Coordinator collaborates with student teams to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and is responsible for creating and delivering equipment operation and safety training for students. Additional responsibilities may include supporting summer workshops and educational camps.

A commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture is essential. Experience in laboratory operations, machine shop practices, and computer-aided design (CAD) is preferred. The successful candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies, maintain current technical knowledge, and continuously improve existing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred qualifications include experience with die design and fabrication, injection molding, casting, SolidWorks simulation tools, and LabVIEW programming.

The position requires occasional climbing or working at heights to inspect, maintain, repair, or modify equipment. The working environment varies between climate-controlled workspace, machine shop space, outdoor workspace, non-climate workspace and storage space. The incumbent in this position will be working around rotating equipment, high temperate furnaces, welding, high voltage equipment, and compressed gas cylinders. The incumbent will be in design shops that contain typical subtractive manufacturing equipment (Lathe, Mill, etc.), CNC equipment (Lathe, Mill, router, plasma), Welding (MIG, TIG, Gas), Abrasive Water Jet, Etching and Cutting Lasers. At times they will also be accessing additive manufacturing. The incumbent must also be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. The typical work schedule is weekdays, with occasional Saturday sessions as needed.

• High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

• Four years of machining, mechanical, or other related experience.

Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Have before hire and maintain after hire a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

• Experience operating subtractive and additive manufacturing equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
• Ability to make independent technical, operational, and business decisions while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Collaborate effectively by communicating clearly, contributing to team-based problem solving, and supporting the successful execution of instructional and research projects with a variety of faculty, staff and students.
• Ability to develop, implement, and maintain machine shop policies, procedures, safety standards, operating practices, and training programs.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and related software tools.
• Skill in operating conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools while maintaining precise tolerances and quality standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent computer-aided design (CAD) software and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems.
• Skill in designing and fabricating fixtures, tooling, and work-holding devices for machining operations.
• Knowledge of machining practices, manufacturing processes, welding, sheet metal fabrication, composites fabrication, and prototype development.
• Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and their proper application, including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and height gauges.
• Ability to operate, maintain, and provide training on machine shop equipment and safe operating procedures.
• Ability or willingness to learn, to teach novices how to use additive and subtractive equipment, such as; lathes, mills, 3D printers, CNC, welding, sheet metal, etc.

• Bachelor's

  Engineering, Applied Sciences, Manufacturing or another related field.

• Industry experience in engineering, machining, or manufacturing. Experience with additive and subtractive manufacturing, with primary focus on traditional subtractive fabrication, as well as willingness to expand knowledge to new equipment and software. Experience with die design and fabrication, injection molding, and casting.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) software to design components and/or perform analysis. Specifically, ability to use SolidWorks simulation tools.

Ability to develop programs using LabVIEW to analyze and measure data.
