Job Details: Job Location: 10 GATEHOUSE TRAIL - WILMINGTON, VT, Position Type: Seasonal, Salary Range: $25.00 - $35.00Hourly, Job Title: Lead Childcare Teacher Location: The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, Wilmington, Vermont Department: Childcare Reports To: Childcare Manager / Director of Club Operations FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Type: Part-Time / Seasonal Position Summary The Lead Childcare Teacher at The Hermitage Club provides a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for the children of Club members and guests. The Hermitage Club operates a licensed Childcare Center during weekends and holiday periods from December through March, with programming designed around fun, developmentally appropriate, and mountain-inspired activities. This position leads classroom activities and routines while creating a welcoming environment in which children can comfortably participate in center-based play. The Lead Childcare Teacher works closely with fellow childcare staff and communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child's experience, routine, and well-being. Key Responsibilities Childcare & Classroom Leadership Lead daily classroom activities and routines, including indoor and outdoor play, mealtimes, transitions, and rest periods. Prepare up to three developmentally appropriate free-play activities at the beginning of each day. Create a positive, nurturing, and engaging environment appropriate for children of varying ages and developmental needs. Support children who may be experiencing their first day of center-based play, including using appropriate co-regulation techniques with children who are upset or having difficulty transitioning. Actively supervise children at all times and maintain appropriate staff‑to‑child supervision standards. Parent & Member Communication Welcome children and families to the Childcare Center in a warm and professional manner. Build positive relationships with parents and guardians through clear and respectful communication. Provide parents with appropriate daily updates regarding their child's routine, activities, development, and experiences. Respond professionally to parent questions and communicate concerns to Childcare leadership when appropriate. Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment throughout the day. Follow all Hermitage Club policies and procedures applicable to childcare operations. Comply with Vermont childcare licensing requirements and established health and safety practices. Maintain required Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR credentials. Maintain an active BFIS account and required annual professional development documentation. Participate in required training and professional development activities. Teamwork & Service Excellence Work collaboratively with other childcare staff to provide consistent supervision and programming. Assist with classroom preparation, cleaning, organization, and closing responsibilities. Communicate effectively with fellow teachers and Club leadership regarding children's needs and daily operations. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing attendance levels, schedules, and the needs of children and families. Contribute to the high level of personalized service expected at The Hermitage Club. Qualifications In accordance with Vermont requirements, Lead Teaching Staff must be at least 20 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, and meet at least one of the following qualifications: Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3) Certificate; or Associate degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services, plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children in grade three (3) or younger; or Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children in grade three (3) or younger; or Successful completion of 21 college credits with an early childhood or school-age focus plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children in grade three (3) or younger. Required Certifications & Skills Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR. BFIS account with required professional development certificates uploaded; the current description specifies 15 hours of 2026 professional development. Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with children, parents, colleagues, and Club members. Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate activities and maintain a structured but welcoming classroom environment. Patience and the ability to appropriately co-regulate and comfort children experiencing separation, transitions, or unfamiliar surroundings. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. Physical Demands & Work Environment Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and move frequently at children's level. Comfortable participating in indoor and outdoor activities in a Vermont winter environment. Ability to actively supervise children throughout scheduled shifts. Must be able to work weekends and holiday periods during the Club's winter operating season. Must be available for eight Saturdays during January and February, with additional shifts available on weekends and during holiday periods from December through March. Reliable attendance is essential; the Childcare Center continues to operate during winter weather and does not observe traditional school snow days. Why Join Us?
