The Physician is responsible for providing appropriate care to all patients, as well as leadership, coordination, and administration duties as required. The Physician leads an interdisciplinary team of caregivers and administrative support staff to perform assigned duties while displaying the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct and acting in the best interest of Northeast Medical Group to optimize the health and well‑being of our patients.
Responsibilities
- Examines patients, obtains medical histories and treats acute and chronic illnesses using up to date evidence‑based guidelines.
- Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests as appropriate using up to date evidence‑based guidelines.
- Involves patients and their families in treatment decisions and care using language and terminology they can understand.
- Acts in a positive and professional manner, complying with practice policies, procedures and federal and state laws.
- Upholds the hospital’s guiding principle of providing superior medical care and education.
- Oversees anesthetic procedures to ensure they are in line with best practices, and continues to assess risk throughout procedures.
- Exercises fair and ethical medical judgment.
- Adheres to medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations and Code of Conduct.
- Provides anesthesiology and pain management services to patients as directed or required.
- Communicates with patients and families throughout the entire surgical process, including preparation, surgery and recovery.
- Mentors students and residents on various procedures as warranted.
- Provides clinical information and consultation to the interdisciplinary team in a clear and timely manner.
- Performs medical procedures and clinical care appropriate to experience, licensure and certification using evidence‑based quality and safety standards.
- Efficiently uses group practice and healthcare resources.
- Promotes health education in conjunction with other health professionals.
- Provides appropriate supervision to ancillary personnel including Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) providing incident‑to services to the physician, and executes collaborative agreements with assigned APCs.
- Follows NEMG practice standards for patient access.
- Provides on‑call coverage as assigned.
- Ensures that proper patient documentation is timely, accurate and complete in a manner consistent with the policies of NEMG, hospital policies, hospital bylaws, applicable law and regulations, and the requirements of third party payers.
- Works with practice management, compliance and revenue cycle to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding and CPT code assignment.
- Participates in annual evaluation process and internal training.
- Participates in the development of medical protocols, standard procedures and management of patient‑care related activities.
- Contributes to quality improvement activities by actively participating in medical staff activities, serving on various committees and suggesting and supporting process improvements.
- Ensures clinic practice follows evidence‑based standards.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education : MD required.
Experience : need to be entered.
Licensure : Possess and maintain a valid American Board certification – Anesthesiology; possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted state medical license based on assigned hospital and practice requirements; BLS certification; valid DEA registration and Controlled Substance Certificate.
Special Skills : Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment. Ability to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality patient care. Ability to receive detailed information and express and exchange ideas orally. Possesses excellent written and oral communication, listening and social skills. Ability to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. Professionally performs in a tactful manner. Uses independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Gives feedback to and accepts feedback from all staff in a respectful manner.
