PreOp PACU RN at Western Carolina Surgery Center: Preoperative Duties: Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations. Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices. Infection Control: Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections. IV Line Management: Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations. Postoperative Duties: Recovery Care: Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns. Assessment: Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed. Medication Management: Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects. Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses. Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions. Additional Job Duty Performs circulating and/or scrub responsibilities as needed to support surgical procedures and ensure efficient patient care and operating room workflow.
