Job Summary Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students. This position typically will advise and counsel: lab users. This position will supervise: NA. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments. Job Duty 2 - Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records. Job Duty 3 - Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations. Job Duty 4 - May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment. Job Duty 5 - Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests. Job Duty 6 - Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma. Required Experience Up to two years of job related experience. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities SKILLS This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required. Summer Carbon Management Fellow Position Overview The Summer Carbon Management Fellow is a six-week, hybrid experiential learning opportunity designed to expose students to real-world carbon management strategies across the southeastern United States. Fellows will engage directly with industry professionals, faculty mentors, and interdisciplinary peers to explore practical approaches to minimizing carbon emissions, including carbon capture, storage, and sequestration methods. Fellows will work in collaborative teams composed of students from multiple HBCUs and will develop a final carbon management concept tailored to the Southeast, culminating in a formal presentation supported by faculty and/or industry mentors. Program Duration 6 weeks (June–July) Hybrid format (in-person and virtual engagement) Key Responsibilities Participate in program orientation and on-site training at Georgia Tech. Visit carbon management research sites and partner company facilities across the Southeast. Assist with hands-on tasks related to Measurement, Reporting & Verification (MRV), including basic measurement, sampling, and data collection. Engage in field and laboratory activities such as soil sampling and preparation, basic carbon content testing (e.g., loss-on-ignition), CO₂ sensor monitoring and data logging, introductory biochar applications, and safety-focused workflow practices. Attend weekly mentorship meetings with faculty and industry professionals. Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to develop a carbon management concept applicable to the Southeast. Deliver a final team presentation during the concluding week of the program. Compensation & Support $5,000 stipend distributed throughout the program. Transportation and lodging provided when appropriate. Direct exposure to STEM, business, and environmental science career pathways. Qualifications Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at an HBCU. Open to students from all majors, with emphasis on those interested in carbon management, carbon capture, environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or related disciplines. Demonstrated curiosity, reliability, and commitment to safety standards. Ability to commit to the full six-week schedule and comply with program expectations.
