Test Automation Engineer (Testing Enablement)

This role calls for a highly motivated, results-oriented test automation engineer who will design and build automation tests to ensure software quality by writing test scripts and frameworks. This individual must ensure best practices and processes are adapted to each project team's specific needs and help identify opportunities to build testability in from the start. A key aspect of this role is combining best practices in the automated code base to ensure projects are delivered with better reliability, faster time to deploy, and stronger user acceptance.

Responsibilities

Governance & Best Practices

Serve as a central point of contact for all best practices and governance implemented by the Testing Enablement team, and drive adoption across all test automation projects.

Work closely with the Testing Enablement Function Lead to identify and foster the creation and usage of automated services for various testing phases, ready ahead of testing cycles.

Balance team priorities with enterprise governance standards while maintaining a deep understanding of each project team's application architecture.

Framework & Tooling

Lead tool selection for applications based on need, and onboard tools such as Playwright, Test Complete, etc. As suitable for each application.

Develop a strong, robust framework to standardize major applications with common, reusable data input/output criteria.

Build automation frameworks from scratch, with strong, detailed analysis of reusable functionality and classes.

Stay current with new test technologies and recommend implementation to program managers/Tower Lead, analyzing how they can improve current ways of working.

Collaboration & Enablement

Work closely with developers and product managers/owners to identify areas of improvement for test automation on an ongoing basis, and enable use of a solid framework to house automated test cases.

Provide input to Technical/Functional Requirement (BRD) gathering, helping identify automation capabilities for new test cases.

Provide training and mentorship to testers on application teams, helping implement best practices from the Testing Enablement Team.

Help each team identify opportunities to shift to a Test-Driven Development model and foster maturity to "shift left".

Quality, Metrics & Reporting

Maintain automation testing artifacts and participate in metrics evaluation with the supporting automation team.

Constantly review and monitor the test suite to identify additional regression scripts that can be automated.

Ensure defects are properly documented per the Requirement Traceability Matrix and triaged appropriately; manage and assign priority based on feedback from the Functional Test Lead.

Assess and report on project testing health metrics, drawing on input from the Functional Lead, Development Lead, and application team lead.

Share insights, lessons learned, and defect triage status with the Testing Enablement Lead to inform enterprise status and reporting metrics.

Demonstrate tangible results through improved defect identification, test automation coverage, and performance test metrics.

Specialized Testing Experience with desktop application automation and mobile testing automation using Appium is required.

Skills & Experience

Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools, with proficiency in a corresponding programming/scripting language; knowledge of Java, Python, and TypeScript/JavaScript required.

Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies, and strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines; knowledge of GitLab CI a plus.

Strong knowledge of test automation tools required, including Selenium, Playwright, JUnit, and TestNG.

Ability to build automation frameworks from scratch, with strong analytical skills around reusable functionality and classes.

Able to work in a hybrid model with a set number of in-office days depending on team schedule.

Flexible to work overtime as needed to support team activities.
