Marketing Content Specialist

Content creation is at the heart of this position. The Marketing Content Specialist helps capture and share the stories of AWS' animals, people, programs, services and community impact through photography, video, social media and other digital content. This role also supports the Marketing Team by assisting with website updates, email marketing, campaigns, events, promotions, asset organization and other projects that keep our marketing efforts moving. No two days look quite the same. One morning you might photograph an adoptable dog, that afternoon help build an email or update a webpage, and the next day create social content for an upcoming event. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Creation & Social Media Capture engaging photos and videos of adoptable pets, programs, services, events, staff, volunteers and community activities. Create and edit short-form video and social-first content for Instagram, Facebook and other digital channels. Help identify interesting stories, moments and content opportunities throughout AWS. Write social media captions and assist with scheduling and publishing content. Help maintain a steady pipeline of fresh photography, video and other creative assets for use across AWS marketing channels. Create written and visual content for social media, website pages, blogs, e-newsletters and other digital marketing needs. Monitor social media trends and bring forward creative ideas and new content formats for the team to consider. Engage appropriately with AWS' online community and help monitor social media activity. Marketing Support & Execution Assist with the execution of marketing campaigns, promotions, fundraising initiatives, events and other organizational priorities. Support email marketing efforts by helping build and format emails, select imagery, prepare content and schedule sends. Make routine website updates in WordPress, including changes to copy, images, links and program information. Help maintain the Marketing Team’s content calendar and coordinate upcoming social, email, web and campaign needs. Create and update simple marketing materials and graphics using established AWS templates and branding. Support event marketing by helping prepare promotional materials, capturing event content and assisting onsite when needed. Organize and maintain AWS' library of photography, video, graphics and other marketing assets. Gather information, photos and other materials from staff to help keep marketing projects moving. Assist with basic reporting on social media engagement, website activity and other marketing metrics. Follow established AWS brand, voice and visual standards across content and materials. Provide general support to the Marketing Team as projects and priorities arise. Support AWS programs and activities as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends. Remain knowledgeable of and in compliance with AWS Personnel Guidelines, applicable State and Federal laws and AWS policies, procedures and programs.

EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED:

What We're Looking For This is an entry-level position. We don’t expect candidates to have years of professional marketing experience or to arrive knowing every platform and tool we use. We are looking for someone who brings strong creative fundamentals, curiosity, organization and a willingness to learn. Ideal candidates will have: Experience creating photography, video or social media content through school, internships, freelance work, volunteer work, personal projects or previous employment. A good eye for photography, video and visual storytelling. Attention to detail. If you’ve read this far, tell us which animal you’d trust to run our social media. Defend your answer. Familiarity with creating and editing short-form video for social media. Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. An understanding of how content differs across social media, websites and email. Creativity and enthusiasm for generating ideas and trying new approaches. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Comfort taking direction, asking questions, receiving feedback and revising work. A collaborative mindset and willingness to pitch in on both creative projects and everyday marketing tasks. Initiative and the ability to work independently once given direction. An interest in learning new tools, platforms and marketing skills. Experience with any of the following is helpful, but not required. WordPress or another website content management system Adobe Creative Suite or other photo/video editing software Social media scheduling tools Content or editorial calendars Website and social media analytics Digital asset organization Event marketing macOS and Microsoft Office A degree in marketing, digital media, communications, photography, videography or a related field is helpful, but not required. Relevant coursework, internships, volunteer experience and personal creative work will also be considered.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

High degree of mobility required. Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Frequent exposure to animals. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. Typically regular work hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

Hourly Rate: $23-$25 per hour, depending on experience.
