As we continue expanding our youth programming, intergenerational makers initiatives, regional partnerships, and public engagement efforts, we're looking for an outstanding communicator to help tell our story.
Position Summary
The Anderson Museum of Art seeks a creative, collaborative Communications Coordinator to help steward the museum's public voice across digital, print, and community platforms.
Working closely with the Executive Director, museum staff, interns, educators, artists, volunteers, and community partners, this position will help create thoughtful, engaging communications that reflect the museum's mission while inspiring participation, strengthening donor relationships, and growing our audience.
Whether your background is in journalism, nonprofit communications, marketing, public relations, museums, education, or digital media, if you enjoy connecting people through compelling stories, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a 20-hour-per-week position with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, Noon-5:00 p.m. The museum offers hybrid flexibility, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support exhibitions, First Fridays, community outreach, fundraising events, and educational programming.
This position has the potential to transition into a full-time Communications role in 2027 as the museum continues to grow.
Primary Responsibilities
Communications & Storytelling
- Help develop and steward the Anderson Museum of Art's organizational voice across all communications.
- Collaborate with museum staff, interns, artists, and educators to create engaging and relevant storytelling that reflects AMOA's mission.
- Develop and maintain an editorial calendar supporting exhibitions, classes, events, fundraising, memberships, partnerships, and community initiatives.
- Write compelling stories highlighting artists, students, volunteers, donors, educators, and community impact.
Social Media & Digital Engagement
- Create and publish engaging content across AMOA's social media platforms.
- Develop fresh, creative, and intergenerational digital content that appeals to a broad and diverse audience.
- Capture photography and short-form video during museum events, exhibitions, classes, and outreach activities.
- Monitor engagement analytics and recommend strategies to increase audience growth and participation.
Marketing, Publications & Donor Communications
Develop and publish:
- Monthly e-newsletters
- Donor stewardship materials
- Event promotions
- Press releases
- Marketing collateral
- Membership communications
- Educational programming promotions
Support communications related to fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, donor appreciation, and museum initiatives.
Website & Givebutter Management
- Maintain and update the museum website with current exhibitions, classes, events, and organizational news.
- Publish and maintain classes, workshops, memberships, camps, donations, and fundraising campaigns on the Givebutter platform.
- Ensure information is timely, accurate, accessible, and visually engaging.
Community Outreach
- Assist in promoting museum programming throughout Madison County and Central Indiana.
- Occasionally represent AMOA at community events, outreach opportunities, exhibitions, fundraising activities, and partner events.
- Support communications that strengthen relationships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, artists, and regional partners.
Preferred Qualifications
We're looking for someone who is:
- An exceptional writer and storyteller.
- Creative, organized, and highly detail oriented.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Passionate about arts, education, nonprofits, and community engagement.
- Experienced with social media strategy and content creation.
- Familiar with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, photography, or video editing (preferred).
- Comfortable updating websites and learning new technology platforms.
- Able to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
- Has a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree, or an equivalent combination of demonstratable education and professional experience.
Experience working in nonprofit organizations, museums, higher education, journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing is preferred but not required.

Schedule
20 hours per week
Regular Hours
- Monday-Friday
- Noon-5:00 p.m.
Hybrid flexibility is available.
Some evening and weekend availability is expected for exhibitions, fundraising events, outreach activities, classes, and community programs.
Compensation
This is a part-time, hourly position beginning at $22.00 per hour , with compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Anderson Museum of Art is committed to investing in its team through scheduled performance and compensation reviews , with opportunities for merit-based pay increases as responsibilities and organizational capacity grow.
As AMOA continues to expand its exhibitions, educational programming, fundraising, and community partnerships, this position has the potential to transition into a full-time Communications role in 2027 .
