Registered Nurse Medical Surgical

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in Medical Surgical specialty is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care on a 23-bed acute care unit, primarily during night shifts. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, PICC line management, IV starts, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care. The nurse will also float within their scope as needed and is expected to work every other weekend. Strong clinical skills and at least one year of relevant experience are required, with additional preferences for charge experience and Cerner documentation skills.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to medical-surgical patients on a 23-bed unit.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Manage PICC lines and initiate IV starts.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Float within nursing scope to meet facility needs as required.
• Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner electronic health records (preferred).
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures in an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet facility.
• Work every other weekend and accommodate block scheduling requests in coordination with management.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois or in application process with ETA.
• Minimum of 1 year medical-surgical nursing experience.
• BLS certification.
• NIH certification.
• Proficiency in PICC line management and starting IVs.
• Ability to work night shifts (1845 start time) in 12-hour blocks (3x12s).
• Driver's license and transportation as needed.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Previous charge nurse experience.
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system.

Special Considerations:

• Will not be required to be on-call.
• Floating to other units within scope of practice is expected.
• Must comply with Return to Office (RTO) restrictions ideally not exceeding 5 days.
• Parking permit required but provided at no cost.
• Work environment is a Level I trauma center and Magnet designated acute care hospital.
• Client may cancel up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts.

Scheduling:

• Night shift with a start time of 18:45, working three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Work every other weekend.
• Block scheduling accommodations available upon discussion with manager.
