Description
The Pharmacy Manager reports to the Director of Pharmacy. The primary job function is to provide the leadership and management skills necessary to develop, implement, monitor, and coordinate the distribution of medications and supplies according to departmental procedures. Collaborates with physicians and other hospital staff on medication related matters. Educates patients and their families to optimize drug therapy.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (5 year) is required. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) is also preferred.
- Licensure: Pharmacy (OH) license required. Graduate Pharmacists may also be hired awaiting license.
- Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred.
Job Specific Duties and Performance Expectations:
- Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies according to accepted standards of practice to fill written prescriptions issued by qualified prescribers.
- Checks the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications dispensed.
- Intervenes clinically with the physician when necessary and appropriate to optimize drug therapy.
- Maintains accurate and appropriate patient profiling and charging records for all inpatient and non-inpatient medication orders.
- Follows accepted standards of practice and adheres to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of SOMC and Pharmacy Services.
- Serves as a drug information source for patients, physicians, nursing personnel, hospital staff, visitors and the community.
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy with certain assigned reports or projects.
- Maintains a level of professional competency and remains current in the field of pharmacy.
- Assigns, teaches, supervises, and monitors the work of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, students, interns and externs.
- Coordinates the activities of the distributive staff.
- Assures and monitors compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
