Monitor Technician

Job Title: Monitor Technician Job Code: 145 Position Summary The Monitor Technician provides support to the patient care delivery team by observing the heart rhythms of patients who are receiving cardiac monitoring. The Monitor Technician is responsible for maintaining alarm parameters established by the physician and for notifying the Registered Nurse of critical changes in patient cardiac rhythms, as per telemetry communication protocol for Centralized Telemetry. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. Responsibilities Observe heart rhythms of patients receiving cardiac monitoring. Maintain alarm parameters established by the physician. Notify the Registered Nurse of critical changes in patient cardiac rhythms per telemetry communication protocol. Support organizational goals by providing quality customer service and participating in performance improvement efforts. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of dysrhythmia recognition course within 30 days of hire. AHA BLS certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer. Experience Cardiac monitor technician experience required. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; skill required within 30–60 days from date of hire. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. Work Environment Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. The position requires considerable standing, reaching, and walking and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Reporting Relationship Reports to Nursing through the Director of Clinical Logistics/Patient Flow.
