Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH)

AB Staffing is looking for an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) that is available for the 25/26 school year.

Salary:

• $50- $55 per hour.

Deaf / Hard of Hearing Teacher Requirements:

• Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification: Hearing Impaired PK–12 required.
• Proficiency in the subject area; experience with case management, paperwork, compliance, and IEPs.
• At least one year of teaching experience with students, K–12.
• Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred.
• Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
• Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Must have the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; May include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required.

Deaf / Hard of Hearing Teacher Job Description:

• Contract through the 25/26 school year – 37.5 to 40 hours per week.
• Contract follows the academic district calendar.

Deaf / Hard of Hearing Teacher Essential Functions:

• Provides expertise to school teams and works with students with hearing loss to provide appropriate educational services, and assess and determine the impact of the hearing loss and areas of potential need for intervention.
• Write IEPs, provide direct service 1:1, in small groups, as push-in classroom services, and consultation with school staff, per the IEP, to support educational attainment and successful communication for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
• Travel to schools to serve the needs of students with hearing loss.
• Collect information from all team members, including the student, and administering appropriate assessments that will help gauge the student’s functional and academic abilities in critical listening situations, phonological awareness, auditory skill development, compensatory skills, social skill development, literacy, expressive and receptive vocabulary, communication, and language.
• Conduct classroom observations to determine if the student with hearing loss has access to communication, determine most appropriate seating for the child according to acoustical parameters and make recommendations for accommodations and modifications that ensure access.
• Assist teams in working with the educational interpreter for assessment purposes, class arrangement, and roles and responsibilities of the interpreter.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.
