Position Overview Department MOTHER/BABY NURSING – 206091 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift Pay Grade Job Description The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. The nurse ensures quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. They direct, coordinate and implement patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Key Responsibilities • Provide comprehensive nursing care to the population assigned.• Maintain and complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit‑specific competencies, and Professional Practice Ladder requirements.• Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities, coordinate PI activities and department initiatives.• Communicate and share information with director/designee, co‑workers, hospital committees, and professional development events.• Maintain a current portfolio and submit it annually by March 1st.• Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review, and develop educational materials (e.g., bulletin board or poster) for staff, patients and families.• Serve as a registered nurse with a BLS certification and any specialty certifications as required or preferred. Qualifications • Education: Nursing Diploma, ASN, or ADN required; BSN preferred.• Experience: Minimum of 1,872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and a satisfactory performance evaluation.• Certification & Licensure: RN license required in the state of assignment (Virginia or West Virginia) via the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart “Healthcare Provider” – AHA approved required prior to orientation. Additional specialty certification preferred.• Must possess a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.• Competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development, and able to use the nursing process.
