Nuclear Medicine TechnologistThe Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs tests for patient diagnosis, progress or deterioration and medical research. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and gives radiopharmaceuticals to patients when indicated and uses high-level imaging equipment to record images of the radioactive material in the patient's body. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works in collaboration with physicians to provide the images for interpretation to study and diagnose a medical condition. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist gives doses of radiation to patients internally to treat various medical conditions when prescribed by a physician. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist participates in a variety of technical tasks, tests and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Receives consultation requests and checks for special instructions from the requesting physician. Consults with the radiologist as necessaryCoordinates and participates in a variety of technical procedures, including in vitro and in vitro studies; operates radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma and other apparatus for in vitro countingCalibrates and prepares radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; formulates radiopharmaceutical materials from pre-prepared kitsCalibrates instruments and reviews calibration data to detect any instrument malfunctionCalculates data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decayEvaluates recorded images for technical qualityProcesses computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT imagesAssumes care of patients of all ages during an examination, and initiates life support measures for patients if necessaryMaintains the inventory of supplies in assigned areas; prepares and maintains records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing and disposal activitiesMaintains records of order, including brachytherapy procedures, receipt and disposal of all radioactive material in the departmentMay be asked to provide some instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging techs; may also assist with training new employeesMay be responsible for monitoring the Nuclear Medicine Department with a portable Geiger Counter to detect any radioactive possible contaminationMay perform Nuclear Cardiology studies including image acquisition and processing and monitoring patient vital signsMay performs EKG prep, tracing and monitors for obvious change during cardiac studiesEnsures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations of the state department of healthEnsures compliance with all Radiation Safety (ALARA) and Quality Control programs/procedures applicable to Nuclear Medicine ProceduresMaintains professional acumen through attending in-service educational programsAdheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and proceduresOther duties as assignedDuration: 13 weeks. possible extensionsBenefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:Competitive pay & weekly paychecksHealth, dental, vision, and life insurance401(k) savings planAwards and recognition programsAmergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
