Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the NICU will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill newborns, ensuring high standards of clinical practice within a neonatal intensive care environment. The role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to support infants and their families. The nurse will float between units as needed and maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios to deliver optimal care.
Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse in the NICU will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill newborns, ensuring high standards of clinical practice within a neonatal intensive care environment. The role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to support infants and their families. The nurse will float between units as needed and maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios to deliver optimal care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide skilled nursing care to neonates in the NICU, including monitoring vital signs and administering medications.
- Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient status and care provided.
- Provide education and support to families regarding infant care and treatment plans.
- Float between units as required to meet staffing needs.
- Adhere to approved staffing ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 based on patient acuity.
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in NICU or critical care settings.
- Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
- Excellent interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
- Driver's license, car insurance, and automobile for field work if applicable.
- Approval for 48-hour and 26-week work periods as per regulatory guidelines.
- Experience with neonatal intensive care protocols and equipment.
- Additional certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Familiarity with flexible scheduling including 13-week and 36-hour options to aid recruitment.
- Floating between units is required.
- No on-call duties required.
- Weekend work is required with variable scheduling.
- Compliance with approved work hour limits (48 hours and 26 weeks).
- Maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on patient needs.
- Variable weekend shifts are required.
- Block schedule requirements are unknown and may be determined by management.
- Options for 48-hour work weeks and 26-week assignment periods are approved.
- Consideration for 13-week assignments and 36-hour work weeks may be offered to support recruitment efforts.
