Maintenance Mechanic

This role focuses on performing preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. You will diagnose and repair mechanical and minor electrical issues, perform fabrication and welding as needed, and support general facility upkeep as part of a collaborative maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on industrial machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and minor electrical issues on equipment and systems to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
  • Repair and replace motors, gears, and other mechanical components to restore equipment functionality.
  • Conduct mechanical repairs on a variety of industrial machines and facility systems.
  • Perform fabrication work as needed, including basic metalwork and welding, to support equipment modifications and repairs.
  • Carry out minor electrical repairs, including work with 240-volt systems, following appropriate safety practices.
  • Install, repair, and maintain basic plumbing, carpentry, conduit, and related facility infrastructure as required.
  • Support HVAC-related maintenance tasks as needed to help maintain a safe and comfortable facility environment.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance activities, such as drywall repair, mopping, and basic building upkeep.
  • Operate a forklift when necessary to move materials, equipment, or components safely around the facility.
  • Follow maintenance requirements, schedules, and documentation procedures to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate closely with a team of technicians to complete projects efficiently and support overall maintenance goals.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Essential Skills:

  • At least 3+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with industrial machinery, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical repairs and component replacement.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment.
  • Experience with basic minor electrical repairs, including work with 240-volt systems.
  • General facility maintenance skills, including plumbing, carpentry, and drywall repair.
  • Ability to read, understand, and work with basic mechanical and maintenance instructions.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work safely with tools, machinery, and equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Capability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team and communicate clearly with colleagues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) on machines.
  • Welding experience, including MIG and stick welding, for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • HVAC-related experience or exposure to HVAC maintenance activities.
  • Experience installing or working with conduit in an industrial setting.
  • Forklift operating experience in a maintenance or facility environment.
  • General assembly skills related to machinery or equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and facility systems.

The dress code includes standard jeans, a work shirt, steel-toe footwear, and safety glasses, reflecting a practical and safety-focused setting. Work is performed in an industrial facility where you will move between machinery, maintenance areas, and general building spaces while following established safety and housekeeping standards.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
