Position: Exhibit DesignerStatus: Full time, permanentLocation: Ohio History Center, Columbus OHSalary: $57,200 per yearBenefits: Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement pension, paid time off and holidays Summary:Develops and implements exhibit projects at the Ohio History Center and Ohio Village and across the site network. In conjunction with the department head, this individual oversees a collaborative exhibit development process and articulates a vision for the experiential and aesthetic direction of exhibits as well as management of overall exhibit schedule. Serves as the primary advocate for the visitor experience in exhibits with an eye to establishing an immersive environment that blends engaging activities and visuals with learning outcomes. Works closely with Interpretive and Content Specialists to develop interactives and other tactile exhibit elements. The employee should be professional, self-directed as well as supportive to team projects, OHC mission, core values and have the able to meet deadlines and complete work within a given budget. Essential Functions:Oversee all facets of the exhibit development process for exhibits working with collections staff, curators, designers, preparators, education and program staff, audience research staff, and marketing and development staff.As required by project needs, assist in hiring or art directing contract photographers, fabricators, illustrators, graphic designers and fabricators.Work directly with vendors to oversee production and installation of exhibit casework, environments, and graphic Design and produce interactive Ability to communicate complex concepts and data in unique and compressive methods to meet intended audience educational level.Work alongside interpretive and content specialists allowing exhibit design to follow narrative.Develop and maintain project budget and reporting.Works with site partners, volunteer and community groups; manages the activities of internal staff and staff at other institutions to ensure projects are successful.Manages and supports elements of project budgeting and appropriate record archiving for Work well within team environment as well as Ability to communicate complex concepts and data in unique and compressive methods to meet intended audience educational level.Has an understanding of proper handling of archival and collections itemsAbility to handle multipleOther duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience:Bachelor 's or Master's degree and or 5-7 years' work in exhibit or interpretive experience development Work experience in creating museum exhibits for cultural organizations, or customer-facing private sector Desired Skills & Experience:Proven experience in taking a program and/or project from concept to completionAble to use project management processesExperience leading teams of peersFamiliarity with hand and shop tools, as well as exhibit installation practicesAble to work well with facilities staff and architectsAble to create evaluations and use evaluation data for program improvementAbility to communicate with staff and the public, both orally and in writing, and on behalf of a programExcellent presentation skillsAbility to consider expenses and revenues in developing and managing program budgetsProficiency in various office software suites, Adobe Creative suits and virtual platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft 365Effective organizational skills, including attention to detail, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks for yourself, and being accountable to the organization for said tasks.Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of varied backgrounds, levels of education, and Ability to design and refine a collaborative and representative exhibit development process for the organization Required Competencies:Can locate and use resources to get things done, orchestrates multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, uses resources effectively and efficiently, and arranges information in a useful manner.Able to initiate project work and delegate to staff (either direct reports, volunteers or program/project staff)Able to process information in a consistent manner, simultaneously displaying adaptability when Intuitive and proactive in the strategy of building relationships and meeting the needs of Strategic thinker who is self-directedAble to make practical and prudent business decisions and connections for profitability (may be earned revenue, grants, state funds, etc.)Through understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Sketchup, Revu, and Microsoft OfficeAbility to read building plans and construction drawingsAbility to support and implement range of budget development and tracking  Application Instructions: Submit Resume/CV and professional cover letter through Ohio History Connection careers website: For questions or accommodations requests, please email View email address on ziprecruiter.com or call View phone number on ziprecruiter.com. EOE Statement:Ohio History Connection will recruit, hire and maintain a diverse workforce allowing for the inclusion of every employee's unique value, contribution and potential.
