Speech-Language Pathologist

JOB GOAL: The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of children with communicative disorders.

Essential and Marginal Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Conduct screenings to determine if further assessment of communication skills are indicated for individual students.
• Assess and diagnose the communication skills (may include articulation, expressive language, receptive language, cognitive-communication, AAC, pragmatic language, fluency, and/or voice) and/or swallowing skills of individual students in K-12.
• Write comprehensive communication evaluation reports for initial evaluations and re-evaluation for K-12 students according to District policy and state regulations.
• Participate in evaluation and re-evaluation meetings in order to provide families/parents with understanding of the student's developmental history and communication needs that may interfere with learning, and share this information with school staff in accordance with confidentiality requirements in developing appropriate recommendations for programming.
• Consult with teachers and other professional staff about the communicative needs affecting one or more students.
• Analyze and synthesize evaluation and re-evaluation data in order to plan and develop a therapy plan and develop Individualized Education Plans to address identified communication needs.
• Case manage speech and language support-only evaluations, Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and other necessary special education documentation within the mandated time lines.
• Conduct clinical therapeutic intervention based upon the plan established in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
• Maintain accurate and orderly monthly therapy plans and schedule of therapeutic services, assuring confidentiality as required by state and federal law, in order to support required monthly ACCESS/Medicaid Medical Billing for students.
• Maintain documentation for caseload compliance and progress reports specific to individual students.
• Assist staff in recognizing the impact of communication needs or differences on learning and behavior.
• Establish communication with community agencies and collaborate with district or community resources to coordinate referrals of students for necessary services.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

• Evaluation of preschool students' transition from Early Intervention to School-Age Services to determine appropriate kindergarten programming, including development of IEPs, as necessary.
• Supervise SLP Clinical Fellows and/or graduate students from higher education institutions.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree (MA or MS) in Communicative Disorders/Speech Pathology
• American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (preferred) or Eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year
• PDE Instructional II Certificate for Speech and Language Impaired K-12 or Educational Specialist for Speech Therapy Certification in Pennsylvania

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: LEA contract year as established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be determined according to district's Non-Teaching Professional Evaluation Plan
