Fitter/Welder I

Summary/Objective The Fitter Welder I is responsible for fitting parts for OGI units. Essential Functions Clamps, holds, tack-welds, grinds, and bolts components to position for welding. Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications. Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Maintain and complete all required records and production documentation. Layout, fits nozzles, supports and couplings per blueprint into shell. Remove rough spots from workpieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers. Maintain a safe work environment and report defective tools and equipment. Operate a forklift and crane. Comply with all safety rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Competencies Technical Capacity Mathematical Thoroughness Supervisor Responsibility – none Work Environment Non-temperature controlled environment with loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles typical of metal fabrication shops. All employees are required to wear personal protective equipment: noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, safety harness, full face grinding shield, welding hood and OSHA compliant safety boots/shoes within the manufacturing facility. Physical Demands Stand for long periods of time. Walk, reach, ascend/descend ladders, bend, kneel, and stoop. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Full-time. Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; additional hours and weekends may be required. Travel No travel is required. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent (GED). 1 year of relevant experience and/or training. 2-year technical degree or vocational certificate in welding preferred. Read and interpret blueprints and have strong mathematical skills. Ability to use and read levels, tapes, protractors, and various tools. Strong organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks. Pass applicable welding test GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Fluxcore).
