Technical Program Manager

The US energy landscape is changing rapidly, and we're sprinting ahead with it, facilitating business between clean energy developers, utilities, and customers (big and small) looking to accelerate the energy transition equitably and affordably. As more utilities and partners integrate directly with our Utility Data Exchange platform, we need someone who can execute on the roadmap and maintain the trust of the people depending on it. UtilityAPI is looking for a Technical Program Manager with utility-facing experience and strong technical fluency to join our team as we continue to bring order to one of the most fragmented markets in the country—utility data.About the RoleReports directly to the VP of Customer Success and works closely with the Engineering, Product, and Business Development teamsManages implementation and ongoing account support for utility clients deploying our data access solutionsStraddles the intersection of technical program management and client success, serving our most important utility accounts end to endFacilitates communications between UtilityAPI's technical teams and the utilities, vendors, and partnersKeeps complex implementation projects on track from kickoff to launch, and then manages the relationship post-launchProvides high-level training to customers, users, and stakeholders as needed on the product for their given use caseBuilds the kind of trust that turns a client into a long-term partnerWhat You'll Do30% Client Relationship Ownership: Fully own the relationship for a portfolio of utility accounts, serving as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor from onboarding through renewal30% Program & Milestone Management: Oversee a slate of technical integration projects, including building schedules, tracking milestones, and driving on-time delivery; identify risks and blockers early, and own escalations through to resolution20% Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate with internal teams (Engineering, Product, & Sales) to keep integrations, launches, and hand-offs aligned20% Playbooks & Process: Build repeatable playbooks and documentation—like API docs, onboarding guides, and testing procedures—that make every future integration fasterYour Experience & Skills5+ years of professional experience in some combination of software technical program management, client management, or customer successExperience working on software and/or IT projects in the energy and utilities sectorExperience managing projects across multiple teams including a mix of agile and waterfall project management approachesExperience managing multiple concurrent technical projects with competing deadlines and stakeholders, driving milestones to completionThe ability to easily translate technical concepts (APIs, integrations, data flows) for non-technical audiences and back againComfort operating with real autonomy: setting your own priorities, working independently, project-managing yourself and your time effectively and efficientlyStrong background in the latest project management tools and comfort translating project artifacts and lessons learned into business process documentationExcellent written and verbal communication skillsYou Might Be Great for This Role IfYou're an expert multitasker, code-switcher, and project-jugglerYou're equally at home making small talk with the client and chatting through the scrum backlogYou're so into utilities that your friends all know what a DER isEveryone borrowed your notes in school, because they were the most thorough in the classFriends often ask you to proofread (...or write) their emails before they hit sendAbout Us:Founded in 2014, UtilityAPI is a software company on a mission to unleash the future of energy by unlocking data.UtilityAPI makes utility data secure and accessible for the broader energy ecosystem: our data exchange platform empowers utilities to effortlessly and confidently share crucial utility and energy data so that partners-developers, trade allies, NGOs, aggregators, and other stakeholders-can tap into utility data like never before.Our team reflects a broad range of experiences, identities, and backgrounds.
