Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist

Position Overview Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at North Carolina State University seeks an Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist. The role involves operating and maintaining specialized manufacturing equipment, supervising the hot press facility, and supporting research fabrication projects. Responsibilities Fabricate specialized components for research and course instruction, including machining, CNC programming, waterjet, laser cutting, and 3D printing. Operate the Senior Design Laboratory and Research Fabrication Shop, working with the Laboratory Manager and Research Fabrication Facility Supervisor. Provide lab safety training and maintain safety protocols in collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety. Set up, operate, and maintain the Hot Press Facility, including machine logs, maintenance, and customer support. Assist machine users with recipe and process development, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs with OEM. Adhere to regulatory requirements, inventory management, and reporting. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent with at least two years of experience in advanced manufacturing; or equivalent education and training. Knowledge of milling machines, lathes, grinders, waterjet, laser cutter, and 3D printers. Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks for waterjet and 3D printing. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, using calipers, micrometers, and laser scanners. Valid North Carolina driver’s license (non‑commercial).
