Medical Director - AP/CP General Surgical Pathologist

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Medical Director to lead a well-established pathology practice serving a large regional medical center on Florida's Gulf Coast. This leadership opportunity is ideal for a board-certified pathologist with strong expertise in general surgical pathology and a passion for collaboration, clinical excellence, and quality patient care.

As Medical Director, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team in a modern hospital environment that offers a diverse case mix and advanced specialty services.

Qualifications

Board Certified in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (AP/CP)
Minimum of three years of hospital-based pathology experience preferred
Strong proficiency in:
- General Surgical Pathology
- Clinical pathology interpretations
- Frozen section procedures
Subspecialty training or expertise in Breast Pathology or Lung Pathology is a plus!
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, hospital staff, laboratory personnel, and referring providers
Active Florida Medical License or eligibility to obtain one (FCVS participation is a plus)

Practice Highlights

Approximately 3,100 surgical pathology cases annually
Approximately 200 cytology cases annually
9–10 procedures per week
15–20 peripheral smears per week
Diverse pathology case mix including:
- Breast
- Colorectal
- Thoracic
- Urologic
- Neurologic specimens
Regular procedures include:
- Frozen sections (sentinel lymph nodes, lung, orthopedic, skin, brain)
- Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) for lung procedures

This position is based within a large regional tertiary care hospital featuring advanced specialty programs, including trauma, burn care, cardiovascular services, neuroscience, cancer care, women's health, orthopedic surgery, stroke care, and rehabilitation services. The pathology practice supports a broad spectrum of surgical and clinical pathology cases while working closely with physicians across numerous specialties.
