We offer new shift differentials. Job Duties Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Demonstrate expertise in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing. Exhibit strong problem‑solving skills. Understand criteria for specimen acceptability and rejection. Function effectively in a team environment. Work under the leadership of Phlebotomist III, Preanalytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other Laboratory Leader and escalates issues accordingly. Possess critical thinking skills to adjust to changing work conditions. Carry out responsibilities in an independent and accountable manner in all assigned care areas. Function as an autonomous end user of relevant Geisinger business applications and tools. Perform collection of specimens in the Acute, Post‑acute, Clinic, and Field Service areas as needed. Mentor students and new employees. Conduct themselves in alignment with Geisinger core values and competencies. Manage inventory as required and directed by site or regional lead. Complete initial and annual competency via Learning Management System, including an exam and direct observation checklist. Foster a collaborative approach to delivering patient care, with effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstration of individual and team accountability, and practice of sound judgement and decision making. Assist with continuous‑improvement objectives, including root‑cause analyses and other investigative processes. Position Details As a phlebotomist, you will support Geisinger’s mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high‑quality laboratory services. At Geisinger, our phlebotomists are the friendly faces that collect samples to be analyzed by our state‑of‑the‑art labs. Supporting a varied patient population, you’ll be responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting. Additional tasks include troubleshooting physician orders, processing specimens for testing, and aiding our patients. We have many different skill levels in our labs, from new to experienced phlebotomists, and all skill levels are well utilized. Geisinger employs phlebotomists in roles I, II, and III. Numerous staff members pursue their ASCP certification and become trainers for our department. Phlebotomist I, II, and III qualifications will be considered at appropriate compensation. Salary is commensurate with experience. Job Location & Schedule Geisinger Medical Center (GMC). Full time. 12‑hour shifts on days. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – required. Minimum of 2 years related work experience – required. Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA), or similar will be considered. Military experience will be considered (US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related medical specialties). Phlebotomist I: less than 1 year of experience. Phlebotomist II: 1–2 years of experience or if graduated from Geisinger’s School of Phlebotomy Program. Phlebotomist III: qualifications of Phlebotomist II plus ASCP Certification and Internal preceptor course. Valid Driver’s License – Default Issuing Body; Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
