Lead COMOS Engineering Designer

Position Summary

The Lead COMOS Engineering Designer will serve as a technical lead supporting engineering design, documentation, and engineering information management for industrial and process facility projects. This position will have a strong emphasis on Siemens COMOS , with responsibility for creating, maintaining, reviewing, and coordinating engineering documentation and data across multidisciplinary projects.

The Lead will provide technical guidance on COMOS workflows and engineering deliverables, help establish and maintain documentation standards, and work closely with Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, and other engineering disciplines to ensure accurate and consistent project information. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on COMOS experience and understands how engineering data, drawings, equipment information, and technical documentation are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical lead for Siemens COMOS engineering design and documentation activities.
• Create, modify, maintain, and review engineering documentation within COMOS.
• Manage engineering data and ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness across project deliverables.
• Develop and maintain equipment lists, instrument indexes, cable schedules, datasheets, reports, and engineering data extracts.
• Review P&IDs, instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, equipment layouts, and other engineering documentation.
• Coordinate COMOS deliverables with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Establish and maintain COMOS workflows, standards, templates, and documentation practices.
• Perform quality reviews of engineering information and identify discrepancies or incomplete data.
• Provide technical guidance and support to engineers, designers, and other COMOS users.
• Assist with project planning, work allocation, and coordination of COMOS design activities.
• Support drawing updates, engineering changes, documentation management, and project closeout activities.
• Develop reports, data extracts, and other engineering deliverables from COMOS.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows through COMOS automation, scripting, and process improvements.
• Work with project teams to implement engineering standards and maintain consistent data structures.
• Support training and development of other team members on COMOS functionality and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related technical field.

Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with Siemens COMOS is strongly preferred.
• Experience with engineering design or CAD platforms such as COMOS, AutoCAD, SmartSketch, AVEVA Engineering, or similar systems.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Understanding of engineering design principles and industrial/process facilities.
• Experience working with:
  • P&IDs
  • Instrumentation diagrams
  • Electrical schematics
  • Equipment layouts
  • Engineering datasheets
  • Equipment lists
  • Instrument indexes
  • Cable schedules
• Experience generating engineering reports, data extracts, and engineering information deliverables.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong understanding of engineering data management and document control practices.

Lead-Level Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience taking ownership of COMOS-based engineering deliverables or projects.
• Ability to provide technical direction and guidance to other engineers/designers.
• Experience reviewing engineering work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards.
• Ability to coordinate engineering information across multiple disciplines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple deliverables, and meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, project management, and field teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced or extensive Siemens COMOS experience .
• Experience leading COMOS implementation, development, configuration, or engineering workflows.
• Industrial, process plant, energy, manufacturing, or other complex facility project experience.
• Experience with engineering information management systems.
• Knowledge of Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering documentation.
• Experience with object-oriented programming or scripting languages such as C#, VB.NET, Java, or Python.
• Experience developing scripts, reports, automation tools, or workflow improvements to increase engineering efficiency.
• Experience training or mentoring other COMOS users.
