Material Handler Position

We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Material Handler to join our manufacturing team in Grandview, Missouri. This position supports production operations by receiving and moving materials, preparing finished products for shipment, operating material-handling and production equipment, packaging products, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Material Handlers may be assigned to different departments based on operational needs and will perform the duties applicable to their assigned area.

Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule and be available to work different shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed based on business and production needs. Flexible availability is required to be considered for this position.

Essential Job Functions

Following established procedures and under general supervision, the Material Handler will:

• Safely operate material-handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet movers, conveying equipment, pumps, hoses, and related equipment.
• Receive, move, stage, and prepare materials and finished products for production or shipment.
• Label, mark, band, palletize, stretch-wrap, and otherwise prepare finished products for shipment.
• Move and handle materials in various package sizes, including approximately 50-pound cartons, 110- to 450-pound drums, 250-pound lever-packs, and bulk sacks weighing up to approximately 1,833 pounds using appropriate equipment and handling methods.
• Monitor material levels, volumes, and quantities when adding or removing materials from vessels and equipment.
• Monitor and maintain required temperatures in vessels and transport equipment.
• Operate equipment used to grind, classify, spray, package, and accurately weigh products.
• Adjust equipment settings and feed rates to maintain product specifications and quality standards.
• Operate weighing and packaging systems to ensure the correct amount of product is placed in each container.
• Hand-stack or maneuver packaged products onto pallets as required by the assigned production area.
• Gather packaging materials and other supplies necessary for production operations.
• Operate package-forming and conveying equipment.
• Inspect containers and promptly address damaged packaging to help prevent product contamination.
• Assist with rework and recycling activities as directed.
• Clean pipes, equipment, and production areas in accordance with Plant Operating Standards and sanitation requirements, including periodic full-system hot-water washes.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
• Follow instructions provided by the Production Supervisor and other members of management through written or verbal communication.
• Complete effective shift-to-shift communication to support safe and efficient continuous operations.
• Help ensure product quality while materials and finished products are within the manufacturing facility, including chemical composition, accurate lot coding, and packaging presentation.
• Assist with investigations into quality concerns and communicate effectively with the Quality Control department.
• Follow established emergency procedures and immediately notify appropriate personnel when an emergency or unsafe condition is identified.
• Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform basic troubleshooting and minor adjustments to equipment and instruments, including adjusting equipment settings, tightening flange bolts or clamps, and inspecting equipment for faults.
• Promptly request additional technical or maintenance assistance when troubleshooting does not correct an issue.
• Assist with training employees as requested.
• Complete production records, batch logs, logbooks, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
• Enter and retrieve information using computer-based systems and accurately complete production postings using established business planning software.
• Perform other duties or assignments as directed by supervision, including work in other classifications or departments when operationally necessary.

Production & Material Handling Requirements

Depending on department assignment, Material Handlers may support production volumes such as:

• Lactylate Tower: Approximately 7,500–10,000 lbs. per hour, packaged in 50-lb. cartons and bulk sacks up to approximately 1,800 lbs.
• Hydrate Plant: Approximately 8,500–10,000 lbs. per hour, packaged in 50-lb. cartons and drums up to approximately 450 lbs.
• DM Plant: Approximately 8,500–10,000 lbs. per hour, packaged in 50-lb. cartons, drums up to approximately 250 lbs., and bulk sacks up to approximately 1,833 lbs.

Work Environment

This position works in an active manufacturing environment. Employees should be comfortable working under the following conditions:

• Exposure to dusty areas requiring appropriate PPE, which may include dust masks, protective coveralls, and/or respirators.
• Sampling hot truckloads of materials and acids while wearing required PPE, including face shields, rubber gloves, and acid-resistant protective clothing.
• Facility temperatures that may range from approximately 45°F to 110°F , depending on the work area, weather, and production activities.
• Regular exposure to manufacturing equipment, production processes, and industrial working conditions.
• Work schedules that may vary based on production requirements.

Physical Requirements

Throughout a typical shift, employees in this position may be required to:

• Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Kneel, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
• Reach above and below shoulder level.
• Regularly use stairs and work across multiple levels of the facility.
• Hand-stack boxes generally weighing approximately 45–55 pounds.
• Position and maneuver drums weighing approximately 110–450 pounds using appropriate material-handling methods and equipment.
• Perform duties requiring adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication to safely complete written and verbal job responsibilities.

Flexible availability is required for this position. Candidates must be able to work schedules based on operational and production needs, which may include different shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays. Applicants who are unable to maintain the required scheduling flexibility may not be considered for the position.
