Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description

The Quality Engineer leads Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and part warrants, while developing and maintaining quality objectives through continuous improvement and direct customer interaction on existing and new products. This role drives customer issue resolution, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives, and serves as the primary quality liaison between customers, suppliers, and manufacturing operations. The Quality Engineer also manages Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities, coordinates process audits, and supports a safe work environment in full compliance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead APQP activities, including PPAP, part warrants, and all supporting quality documentation for existing and new products.
• Develop and maintain quality objectives through continuous process improvement and direct interaction with customers on quality-related matters.
• Drive customer issue resolution by investigating problems, implementing corrective actions, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
• Serve as the primary quality liaison between customers, suppliers, and manufacturing operations to address quality concerns and support product launches.
• Interface regularly with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to communicate quality status, requirements, and improvement plans.
• Lead training and development of plant personnel in quality systems, tools, and disciplines to strengthen quality performance across the facility.
• Manage Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities, including data collection, analysis, and follow-up actions to maintain process capability.
• Coordinate and support process audits with quality technicians and analysts to ensure adherence to quality standards and system requirements.
• Provide quality coaching and training to team members to promote consistent application of quality methodologies and tools.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation and reports related to quality systems, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
• Support audit activities, including internal system audits and customer or third-party audits, by providing documentation and process evidence.
• Review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality impact and recommend updates to improve process control and product conformity.
• Support and promote a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable quality system requirements.

Essential Skills

• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively interact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Strong computer literacy to manage quality data, documentation, and reporting.
• Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies used in manufacturing environments.
• Experience working within a QS-9000 quality system environment.
• Background in quality engineering, including hands-on experience with continuous process improvement.
• Proficiency in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and related processes.
• Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), including preparation of part warrants and supporting documentation.
• Ability to conduct and support SOP reviews from a quality perspective.
• Experience leading customer quality activities, including issue resolution and corrective actions.
• Ability to manage Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities and interpret process data.
• Experience providing quality coaching, training, and technical guidance to plant personnel.
• Technical writing skills for creating clear, accurate quality documentation and reports.
• Experience supporting and participating in process and system audits.
• Four-year college degree, or a two-year degree combined with 2–5 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a TS16949 systems internal auditor is a strong plus.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar ASQ certification is a strong plus.
• Experience working with multiple OEMs and tier 1 suppliers is beneficial.
• Ability to work with advanced equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives across cross-functional teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spartanburg, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
