Please click here to learn more about our locations.Job DescriptionShriners Children’s Portland is seeking a PRN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to provide weekend coverage for the inpatient unit. This role requires approximately one 10-hour shift every three months, with anticipated coverage of one to two days per month. Shifts are typically scheduled six to eight weeks in advance and generally run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The APP will provide comprehensive inpatient medical management for a daily census of approximately three to nine patients, including feeding advancement, pain management, discharge planning, and follow-up with patient families by phone.This is an inpatient-only position supporting medically complex pediatric orthopedic patients and requires the ability to work independently after a focused orientation period. Preferred candidates will have several years of relevant experience managing medically complex patients or inpatient populations, with pediatric orthopedic experience considered valuable. Orientation includes approximately 10 weekday shifts alongside an experienced provider, followed by two to three weekend shifts with provider support.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide weekend inpatient coverage for pediatric patients with orthopedic and medically complex conditions.Conduct comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments, histories, and physical examinations.Manage inpatient care, including medical management, feeding advancement, pain management, discharge planning, and patient or caregiver phone calls.Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.Perform preoperative and postoperative evaluations and provide ongoing inpatient management.Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests as permitted by licensure, protocols, and hospital policies.Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within the APP’s scope of practice.Perform routine proceduresParticipate in care coordination, multidisciplinary discussions, and patient care conferences.Educate patients, caregivers, and staff regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge or home-care needs.Document assessments, clinical decisions, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly in the electronic health record.Deliver safe, high-quality care while adhering to hospital policies, infection-control standards, regulatory requirements, and documentation expectations.Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and other members of the pediatric specialty care team.Participate in quality-improvement, patient-safety, research, and educational activities as appropriate.Maintain required licensure, PALS certification, mandatory training, and professional credentials.Complete assigned administrative or other clinical responsibilities within the scope of practice and support organizational goals.Required QualificationsIf Physician AssistantMaster of Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent degree) from an accredited Physician Assistant programCurrent, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the state of practiceCertification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)If Nurse PractitionerMaster of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner programAmerican Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or equivalent board certification in applicable specialty area, such as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC, CPNP-PC) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of practiceBothAdvanced practice experience managing pediatric, medically complex, or inpatient patients.Must possess eligibility for active DEAMust possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required based on clinical assignmentCredentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylawsPreferred QualificationsExperience with pediatric orthopedic, spinal, craniofacial, neuromuscular, burn, general surgery or rehabilitation patient populations preferredStrong pediatric assessment and clinical decision-making skills.Familiarity with pediatric specialty protocols and post-surgical care.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and care teams.Proficient in EHR systems and clinical documentation.Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, family-centered care, and trauma-informed practice.Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity. #J-18808-Ljbffr
