Surgical Assistant/First Assist
The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the surgeon. The Surgical Assistant must be knowledgeable in surgical anatomy and physiology. They must demonstrate proficiency in operative techniques relative to surgical procedures. Maintaining clinical competence in the pre-operative assessment and intraoperative tasks as a First Assistant is essential. The Surgical Assistant is responsible for patient preparation and assistance during surgical procedures. Required experience includes orthopedics, neuro/orthopedic spine, general/robotics, urology/gyn, and vascular surgeries. Candidates should be focused on reducing surgical supply expenses by minimizing waste. Adherence to established infection prevention standards and practices is crucial. Active participation in the "Time Out" process on all surgical cases prior to incision is required.
