Behavioral Health Technician

Full time. Location: Paola, KS, US. Salary Range: $18.00 to $24.00 hourly. Position Summary The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) assists the Facility Director and treatment team in coordinating day‑to‑day operational needs of the facility and its patients. The BHT monitors patient condition, ensures safe operations and collaborates with treatment staff on patient scheduling, safety, and daily supervision. The role may include transportation responsibilities for clients with a valid driver’s license. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with supervision of patients during daily activities. Ensure patients follow the clinical schedule and communicate any issues to the treatment team. Transport clients as needed when eligible. Obey all state motor vehicle and safety regulations. Conduct vehicle and client safety checklists before transport. Perform continuous rounds of the facility, rooms, and grounds to ensure safety. Conduct urine analyses and other CLIA‑waived tests when required. Conduct Breathalyzer tests when required. Identify contraband and immediately report findings to supervisor. Ensure facility rules and patient rights are upheld. Resolve housekeeping and facility upkeep issues. Prepare rooms and common areas for client admission and discharge. Create a supportive environment for clients in line with ethical treatment standards. Accept constructive criticism and objectively evaluate suggestions. Maintain attendance and report to work per the assigned schedule. Promote a positive, team‑based work atmosphere. Complete all required trainings and attend in‑services and education sessions as assigned. Adapt flexibly to expected and unexpected changes. Report suspected contagious illnesses to the Facility Director. Maintain physical environment safety. Report grievances, incidents, and suspected abuse, neglect, trauma, or exploitation. Solve problems independently and follow through. Operate independently within a treatment program environment. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned. Required Certifications CPR BLS / First Aid CLIA Waived training (if applicable) Skills and Abilities Team‑oriented communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Resilience under stress and flexibility to meet department needs. Knowledge of TJC standards. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of State and Federal patient confidentiality laws. Compliance with drug‑free workplace policies. Completion of harassment and discrimination training. Understanding of corporate integrity and compliance programs. Comfortable with current technology. Understanding of Substance Use Disorder; ability to score >70% on SUD training. Familiarity with community resources and how to contact them. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred. Two years of experience in a hotel, customer service, hospital, or treatment program setting. For drivers: minimum five years driving experience, a valid driver’s license, and a clear driving record approved by the insurance carrier. Experience in chemical dependency / substance abuse / psychiatric or human services setting is preferred. Complete TB testing upon hire. Background consent and results required prior to hire. Completion of training, certifications, or competencies listed above and any additional state or Joint Commission requirements. For individuals in personal recovery: minimum one year clean and sober.
