About the Role

Step into a hands-on technical role where you will test, investigate, and diagnose alternators, starter motors, wiper motors, and related automotive electrical components. You’ll support customers directly, pinpoint root causes, and drive corrective actions that elevate product reliability and satisfaction.

A Day in the Life

You start by reviewing new Quality Response System (QRS) cases, prioritizing customer concerns and warranty claims. Before lunch, you’re running reliability tests, calibrating test equipment, and validating supplier samples against OE and WAI specifications. The afternoon may bring a phone consult with a customer on a rotating electrical issue, followed by a deep-dive failure mode analysis at the component level. You close the day by documenting findings, collaborating with Sales and the Director of Quality, and advancing improvement projects.

Core Impact

• Serve as the voice of the customer—build trust through timely, accurate technical support.
• Execute quality reliability testing and detailed failure mode analysis for rotating electrical products.
• Inspect and test products within the QRS workflow; evaluate warranty claims with clear, data-backed findings.
• Validate supplier samples against OE and WAI criteria to ensure conformance.
• Calibrate and repair testing equipment and testers as needed.
• Diagnose issues at the component level for customer evaluations, labor claims, or specific QRS requests.
• Provide telephone-based technical assistance; assist with cross-references and product lookups.
• Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Product Management, and others to resolve quality issues.
• Track problem resolution progress and bring improvement projects to completion.
• Maintain and help enforce all Quality Department policies while sustaining high productivity, efficiency, and quality.
• Perform interdepartmental technical support; other non-Quality duties may be assigned.
• Travel may be required for quality support or training.

What You Bring

• Education: College diploma with at least 2 years of related industry experience, or a high school diploma with at least 5 years of related industry experience.
• Experience: 2–5 years in the automotive industry.
• Technical: Strong knowledge of DC vehicle electrical systems; hands-on expertise with alternators and starters, including testing and diagnosing failure modes; understanding of automotive electronics; mechanically inclined; proficient with hand tools and diverse measuring/testing equipment.
• Certifications: ASE certification is an asset.
• Computer: Comfortable in a Windows environment; proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Skills: Follow instructions and management direction; adept with mechanical tools and measurement devices.
• Communication: Clear verbal and written communication; phone or customer service experience is a plus; able to present information effectively in reports, presentations, and small-group/customer settings.
• Attributes: Efficient time management; calm under pressure; safety- and security-conscious; unwavering focus on customer satisfaction.
• Proficiency areas: Mechanical testing; ASE Automobile and Light Truck Certification tests familiarity.
