Patient Access Rep

Per Diem Availability based on staffing vacancies, including weekends. 1 summer and 1 winter holiday required. Description Facilitates patient flow through the system from scheduling through registration check‑in so that patients have a "one touch" registration/scheduling experience. Responsible for obtaining demographic and financial information to ensure accurate patient identification and identify and secure appropriate payment sources. Performs registration functions, insurance eligibility verification, patient liability collection, scheduling and admitting duties. Provides estimates for services when appropriate. Receives and processes patient financial liability payments. Working hours may include weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays. Responsibilities Greeting patients and staff promptly and professionally; checking them into the system with direction based on appointment location, financial clearance, and counseling status; acknowledging and assisting patients with special needs and respecting confidentiality. Responding to telephone calls according to established customer service standards, providing requested information, and reducing abandoned calls, call length, and average speed answered through best practices. Performing accurate search/selection of patients within the hospital system using the Patient Identification procedure to maintain the integrity of the EMPI and ensure patient identification accuracy. Accurately establishing and scheduling appointments for services from patients directly or physician offices following the designated protocols of the scheduling systems and clinical EMRs. Performing registration functions in the system and entering accurate and complete demographic and financial information to secure payment for services rendered. Performing insurance eligibility verification and executing payor requirements as needed. Providing estimates for services, communicating and actively soliciting patient liability. Entering testing orders in the appropriate system when necessary; understanding coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master. Obtaining signatures for all required organization, state, and federal consents and notifications. Remaining compliant with current Department Policies and Procedures. Fulfilling all compliance responsibilities including HIPAA, EMTALA, and Patient Bill of Rights. Performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma required; associate degree preferred with 6 months job‑related experience. Minimum 2 years job‑related experience required (preferred 1 year). Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel. Customer service and organizational skills. NAHAM certification desired within one year of hire.
