Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) Position Overview The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting. The position involves administering chemotherapy, managing hypersensitivity reactions, and offering supportive care, including hydration and blood transfusions. The RN will work with a focus on patient safety and effective treatment administration. Unit Information
- Unit: Ambulatory Treatment Center/Infusion Center
- Number of Beds: 13 infusion chairs
- Patient Ratios: Not applicable in an outpatient setting; typically limited to 4 active infusions
- Administer chemotherapy and immunotherapy as per protocols
- Monitor and manage hypersensitivity reactions
- Provide hydration, iron therapy, and blood transfusions
- Maintain vascular access including peripheral IVs and port access
- Perform lab evaluations and correlate results with patient treatment plans
- Current CA RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- ONS chemotherapy/immunotherapy provider card
- ONS/ONCC certification with relevant experience and knowledge
- Proficiency in chemotherapy administration and oncology experience is preferred
- Recent experience in chemotherapy administration
- Strong pharmacologic knowledge
- Ability to manage and respond to hypersensitivity reactions
- Experience with vascular access and maintenance techniques
- Shifts are typically 8 hours
- Self-scheduling is available
- One weekend day required every four weeks
- Minimal holiday requirements with light patient loads on holidays
- Charting System: Cerner
- No dedicated nurse aides are present; however, a scheduler and manager can assist as needed
- Patient population is primarily ambulatory and independent with activities of daily living (ADLs)
